Pomegranates are a fruit with great antioxidant power that can help prevent cancer and degenerative diseases. It even has up to three times more antioxidants than green tea. We do not have many trees so they will be active for a short time, but the units we send will be a selection of the best 🙂

Characteristics of grenades

The pomegranate is a round fruit, about the size of a small apple, with a hard, tough skin. Its colour can vary from a deep red to a soft pink, depending on the variety. The skin of the pomegranate is thick and slightly rough, which gives it a distinctive appearance.

Opening a pomegranate reveals its interior filled with small pouches called arils. These arils are vibrant red in colour and full of sweet, refreshing juice. Each aril contains a small edible seed, which can be hard or soft depending on the variety of pomegranate.

Pomegranate seeds are what make this fruit so special. They are a concentrated source of antioxidants, which help fight free radicals in the body. In addition, pomegranate is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K and fibre, which makes it a very nutritious food.

How you will receive the pomegranates from Pancha’s Orchard

Our pomegranates are harvested at their optimum point. This point, in the case of the pomegranate, does not coincide with the ripening point. In other words, you have to wait a few days before you can consume them. These pomegranates keep all their natural flavour as they do not go through cold storage.

For packaging, we use 100% recyclable cardboard boxes and always try to ensure that they are as well protected as possible to avoid damage during transport. We seek quality for the consumer.

How pomegranates are eaten

This fruit is generally consumed in its natural state. It can be eaten in grains and combines very well with other flavours, both sweet and savoury. It is delicious in fruit salad with other fruits or in salads as it enriches with its flavour, adding colour and freshness.

There are two techniques for extracting the berries without damaging them: the most common is to cut a wedge-shaped piece off the top of the fruit, known as the flower. Then hold the fruit over a bowl and, exerting light pressure, break it in two; most of the kernels usually fall out. It is advisable to remove the fragments of the inner membrane because they contribute a bitter taste. Another effective method, although somewhat more laborious, is to cut the two poles (the one at the base and the one at the blossom), using a knife to make slits from top to bottom, in a similar way to how oranges are peeled. Finally, remove the segments from their skin and take the cut pieces and place them in your hand. With a wooden spoon, beat the peel and observe how the grains fall out and fall into the container that you have previously placed in it.

How pomegranates are preserved

As a general rule, pomegranates, before opening, can be kept in perfect conditions for consumption for several weeks at room temperature, provided they are kept in a dry place and without direct exposure to the sun. If, on the other hand, we have already shelled it, we put the grains in a plastic bag or in an airtight container to be consumed within a maximum of 5 days.

If the fruit is to be kept fresh for one or two months, then it is advisable to store them unshocked and whole in the refrigerator, preferably in the fruit and vegetable compartment.

Finally, you can also choose to freeze the beans. Just make sure they are clean and dry before putting them in a bag in the freezer. In this way the beans will keep fresh for up to 6 months. To thaw the seeds, place the bag in the refrigerator until completely thawed. The seeds will be less crunchy and juicy but can be safely used in recipes and juices. Once thawed, consume within three days and never refreeze.
