The gulupa, also known as the round curuba, is a delicious tropical fruit. Buy the organic gulupa from Huerta de Pancha and enjoy the natural flavour of this naturally grown fruit.

Characteristics of the gulupa

The gulupa is a small fruit, between 4 and 8 centimetres in diameter. Its skin is dark purple, almost black, depending on the moment of ripening. The interior is yellow-orange and its texture is gelatinous, composed of edible black seeds. It has a very refreshing sweet and sour taste.

Types of gulupa

There are several varieties of gulupa, defined mainly by the colour of their skin. The most common is the purple gulupa. Other varieties include yellow curuba and different types of granadillas.

Organic cultivation of gulupa in Malaga

At Huerta de Pancha, our gulupa cultivation is organic. The vine-like plant thrives in tropical climates. The Axarquia, with its ideal climate, allows us to obtain the best fruits.

Ecological processes:

  • Pollination: We use bees for natural pollination. We have hives close to our plantations to ensure effective pollination.
  • Chemical-free fertiliser: Our fertilisers are totally ecological, guaranteeing strong and healthy plants.
  • Harvesting: Harvesting is manual and is done from the ground, selecting the fruit in perfect condition.

How you will receive the gulupas from Huerta de Pancha’s garden

The gulupas are harvested at their optimum point of ripeness and shipped slightly greener to ensure freshness. Not all ripen at the same time, so some pieces may need a few extra days to reach perfect ripeness.

How to preserve gulupas?

For proper ripening, leave the gulupas at room temperature. Once ripe, they can be kept in the fridge for a week or frozen in whole pieces or by removing the pulp.

How should gulupa be consumed?

The skin is not edible, but can be used in culinary preparations. The pulp and seeds are eaten fresh, ideally by cutting the fruit in half and using a spoon to scoop out the pulp. The gulupa is perfect for desserts such as ice cream and cakes.

The taste of gulupa is sweet and sour and refreshing, with citrus notes and a hint of sweetness, appreciated for its exotic character.
