Pomegranates are a fruit with great antioxidant power that can help prevent cancer and degenerative diseases. It even has up to three times more antioxidants than green tea. We do not have many trees so they will be active for a short time, but the units we send will be a selection of the best 🙂
Characteristics of White Seed Pomegranates
The white-seeded pomegranate is a round fruit, similar in size to a small apple, with a hard and sturdy skin. Unlike red pomegranates, the skin of this variety usually has a lighter color, which can range from a soft cream tone to a pale green, depending on its ripeness. Its skin is thick and slightly rough, giving it a unique appearance. When opening the pomegranate, small white arils are revealed. These arils are filled with sweet and smooth juice, which is refreshing and less acidic compared to other varieties. Each aril contains a small edible seed, which can be slightly crunchy or soft, depending on the ripeness of the fruit. The seeds of the white-seeded pomegranate are valued for their high antioxidant content, helping to combat free radicals in the body. Additionally, this variety is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber, making it a highly nutritious and healthy food.
How You’ll Receive White Seed Pomegranates from La Huerta de Pancha
Our white-seeded pomegranates are harvested at their optimal ripeness. This point does not always coincide with the ideal time to consume them, so we recommend waiting a few days after receiving them to enjoy their full flavor. They do not go through cold storage, which allows them to maintain all their natural properties and freshness. For packaging, we use 100% recyclable cardboard boxes designed to protect the fruit during transport and ensure it arrives in perfect condition to your home.
How to Eat White Seed Pomegranates
This fruit is usually consumed fresh, enjoying its white seeds. It pairs perfectly with sweet and savory flavors, making it ideal in fruit salads or salads, where it adds freshness, color, and a mild flavor. There are two main techniques for extracting the seeds without damaging them:
- The most common method is to cut a wedge-shaped piece from the top of the fruit (the flower), then gently press and split it in two. Many of the seeds will fall directly into a container. It’s important to remove any pieces of the inner membrane, as they can be bitter.
- Another method, a bit more labor-intensive, is to cut the top and bottom (base and flower) of the fruit, score the skin vertically with a knife, and then separate the sections. You can then lightly tap the skin with a wooden spoon to loosen the seeds, which will easily fall out.
How to Store White Seed Pomegranates
- Whole Pomegranates: They can be kept in perfect condition for several weeks at room temperature, as long as they are stored in a dry place and away from direct sunlight.
- Pomegranate Seeds: If you’ve already removed the seeds, place them in a plastic bag or airtight container and consume them within 5 days.
- Long-Term Storage: If you wish to keep pomegranates for one or two months, store them whole and undamaged in the refrigerator, preferably in the fruit and vegetable compartment.
- Freezing: The seeds can also be frozen. Ensure they are clean and dry before placing them in a freezer bag. This way, they will remain fresh for up to 6 months. To thaw the seeds, place the bag in the refrigerator until fully thawed. While the seeds may lose some crispness, they can still be used in recipes and juices safely. Once thawed, consume them within three days and never refreeze them.
