The prunus pérsica, known as peach, is a round, coloured fruit, covered with a light fuzz, and typically summery. In fact, its name peach comes from the Latin, ‘malus cotonus’ which means “cottony apple”.
Peaches are a seasonal fruit, as they do not last long once harvested. Their delicate flesh and richness in vitamins and enzymes make them ideal for eating raw. The peach provides modest quantities of vitamin C and provitamin A. However, it is a good source of potassium, phosphorus and vitamin B.
The properties of peaches are:
- High water content.
- Rich in fibre.
- Source of beta-carotene.
- High potassium levels.
- Source of minerals: magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, selenium…
- It is a diuretic fruit.
- Rich in vitamins C and E
