For packaging, we use 100% recyclable cardboard boxes and we always try to ensure that the artichokes are as well protected as possible, thus avoiding, as far as possible, any damage during transport.
Cultivation of artichokes in Malaga
The cultivation of the artichokes of the Huerta de Pancha is completely natural.This means that we do not use pesticides or chemical fertilisers to fatten up the production, putting quality before quantity. For this, the crop must meet a number of conditions in relation to climate, soil and water.
In terms of temperatures, the climate artichokes need for their development is cold, but they do not tolerate extreme temperatures. The range of temperatures that this vegetable can tolerate is between 7ºC and 29ºC.
The soil needs very specific humidity levels for the plant to take root. At Huerta de Pancha, we use a drip irrigation system.
We collect the artichoke by hand. We always do this before the outer leaves start to open. The artichokes are harvested preserving the stem, which is important so as not to damage the heart of the plant.
How to preserve artichokes
If they are very fresh, artichokes can be kept for up to 7 days in the fridge in a plastic bag in which they are kept without removing the stem or the outer leaves, as they help to protect the edible part of the artichoke.
When the stems have not been cut too much, they can also be left in a glass of water as if the artichokes were a bouquet of flowers.
