Discover the yellow passion fruit from Huerta de Pancha! This variety is less acidic than the purple variety that you can also find on our website.

Maracuya’s characteristics

Passion fruit is characterized by being a small fruit, with a size between 4 and 8 centimeters in diameter. The skin is yellow, depending on the ripeness, its interior is yellow-orange, and its texture is gelatinous; it is composed of a series of edible black seeds. Additionally, it has a characteristic sweet and sour taste that is undoubtedly very refreshing.

Organic Passion Fruit Cultivation in Málaga

The cultivation of passion fruit in our orchard is organic. The plant is similar to a vine, requiring a tropical climate to produce its fruits. Therefore, La Axarquía is the ideal environment to obtain the best specimens of passion fruit. At Huerta de Pancha, we carry out the most natural processes for growing our plants.

Some of these processes are the following:

Pollination

The pollination process of our plants is carried out naturally with bees. At Huerta de Pancha, we have hives close to our passion fruit plantations, so our bees are responsible for pollinating the flowers of all our crops, including this tropical fruit.

Chemical-free Fertilization

At Huerta de Pancha, we fertilize our passion fruit plants in a completely natural way. Our fertilizers are organic, helping our plantation grow strong.

With this, we ensure that our passion fruits are completely organic.

Harvesting

The harvesting of passion fruits at Huerta de Pancha is done manually from the ground. When picking the best specimens, we ensure the fruits are in perfect condition by checking for any external damage on the skin.

How You Will Receive Passion Fruits from Huerta de Pancha

Our passion fruits are harvested at the most optimal point. The optimum point of harvesting does not coincide exactly with the optimum point of ripeness for consumption; they are harvested a little greener. Moreover, not all passion fruits, even if harvested on the same day, ripen simultaneously. It is a process that depends on size, position in the bush and many other factors. Therefore, sometimes you might have to wait a few days for some pieces to ripen after receiving your order.

How to Know if the Passion Fruits are Ripe?

A trick to know if passion fruits are ripe is to check if their skin has wrinkled and turned yellow. For packaging, we use 100% recyclable cardboard boxes and we always try to ensure that the passion fruit is well protected to avoid damage during transport as far as possible.

How to preserve passion fruit?

Passion fruit should be left at room temperature so that it ripens and its flavour softens and sweetens. Once ripe, it can be kept in the fridge for a week or it can be frozen in whole pieces or by extracting the pulp, thus keeping it in optimal conditions for months.

How should passion fruit be consumed?

Its skin cannot be eaten, although it can be used for culinary preparations. Only the pulp and seeds are eaten from the fruit. To enjoy it properly, it is best to eat it fresh. To do this, cut it in half and then, with the help of a spoon, consume the pulp along with the seeds inside. With it you can create a version of the most delicious desserts, such as ice cream or a fruit tart.
